Invisalign is an alternative to the teeth braces that are used to improve the alignment of the teeth. This improves the overall look of your face and your smile turns into one of those which is full of confidence. It uses a series of alignment trays that move the teeth to fix the entire structure.

The old fashioned alignment equipment is too visible. They are not comfortable and decrease the natural beauty of a face. This replacement for braces is a less visible one. It isn't noticeable even when you see from up close, and this is why people chose it rather than the old ways of aligning teeth.

When compared to traditional braces, Invisalign provides results much quicker than braces, which can take as much as two years. Though Invisalign aligners might break if you are not careful enough, they are less prone to damage as compared to the typical metal braces.

The biggest advantage or plus point is that they are more comfortable and calming for the person using it. There is not much hassle in such a situation, and they are practically invisible. They do not contain metal wires which can poke.

They can be removed, though should be worn without any break to achieve the desired results. The number of Invisalign aligners depends upon how severe the gapping situation of the patient is. There is only slight discomfort during the initial stage and also, they can be removed during eating and other such situations.

The cost of the Invisalign retainers is more or less the same as the cost of the traditional metal braces making them affordable. Also, the orthodontists only prescribe this treatment for adults, and not for young children because children do not use it for the appropriate amount of time or are negligent in the usage.

The main disadvantages with Invisalign

The main problem of these aligners is that they are removable. For complete positive results, should be worn for about 22-24 hours a day, and should be only removed while eating or cleaning your teeth. A negligent person might lose them by misplacing them or they might be irregular in their using the aligners.

After the completion of the whole process, it becomes compulsory to wear the retainers to prevent the teeth from falling back to the original position.

The time period for fixing a gap

  • A mild case might take 6 to 12 months to fix a gap, more or less. Though, more severe cases might take longer. Actual time might vary from person to person. You may start seeing the difference within 2 to 3 months from starting of the treatment.
  • In a case of crowded teeth, it might take as much as 6 months to fix the issue. For smaller gaps, 6 to 8 weeks is an ample amount of time for the gap to close. The main problem with such gaps is that they tend to recur if they are not retained in their place. So, retainer usage is a must after the stipulated period of 6 to 8 weeks.
  • For teens and young teens, it takes more time to fix the gap. Though this has nothing to do with the structure of the teeth. It is merely because they do not use the aligners for the appropriate amount of time.
  • Even if there are small corrections to be made in the teeth, the whole process might take a long time if they are not used for the stipulated period, i.e., 22-24 hours a day.
  • One person's mouth could be easily movable and someone else's could be rigid. There is no way to practically guess how your mouth will react to the treatment procedure.
  • It should be noted that the patients who grind their teeth frequently are not advised to use this product, as the retainers might get broken in the mouth itself and the person might swallow it. This can lead to infections, allergies, or other such ailments. Such allergies might be having a sore throat, fatigue, or congestion.
  • Also, it should be kept in mind that for eating, the retainers should be removed. After eating, brushing and flossing of the teeth is necessary. Take care of your teeth. They are the reason you shine when you smile.
